Pollution, in its various forms—air, water, and soil—significantly shortens global life expectancy by contributing to chronic diseases, premature deaths, and environmental degradation. Air pollution, particularly from fine particulate matter (PM2.5), is responsible for millions of deaths annually, especially in urban areas and developing regions.

Contaminated water and polluted soils lead to waterborne diseases and toxic food supplies, further harming vulnerable populations. Additionally, pollution exacerbates climate change, increasing the spread of infectious diseases and extreme weather events.

Disadvantaged communities, often living in heavily polluted areas, face disproportionate health risks, deepening global health inequities. Urgent action to reduce pollution through stricter regulations, cleaner technologies, and individual efforts is essential to reversing its harmful effects and improving life expectancy worldwide.
